INSTALLATION / APPLICATION
The STINK-SHIELD® shield-valve is installed :
- in surface water manholes,
- on new or existing networks,
- at the end of a pipeline on an elbow bend,
- in a horizontal position.
FUNCTIONING WHEN IT RAINS
When it rains : normal drainage of surface water from the manhole to the collector.
- the water level at the manhole rises until it reaches the STINK-SHIELD®,
- as a result of the water pushing on the STINK-SHIELD®, the two main vents open and allow the water to be drained into the collector.
MAIN VENTS OPEN = DRAINAGE OF SURFACE WATER

FUNCTIONING IN THE CASE OF A DRY PERIOD
In dry periods : evaporation of the water.
- Once the end of the elbow bend is submerged, the bad smells cannot pass through. The elbow bend acts as a siphon.
- At the rate of evaporation, the water level in the manhole reduces, the secondary vents open and allows the remaining water in the pipe to be drained.
OPENING OF THE SECONDARY VENTS
- When the surface water level goes beneath the STINK-SHIELD® (or when the manhole is completely dry), the main vents close again and block the bad smells coming from the pipeline. The smells remain trapped in the collector.
